MCW - Best Movie shot in Scotland
This is not an accurate historical tale. There are some real bloopers in here (including the myriad of Scottish accents from all over Scotland, when they were all supposed to be from the same village), but it does not detract from the fact it's a good tale, well told.
Yes, it's been Hollywooded. But I can live with that.
Enjoy.
And Happy MCW

It wasn't. That was Local Hero.
ReplyDeleteRegardless of the Accent accuracies or inaccuracies, wigs costumes and pretty scenery had me in... O and Liam Neeson doing a nessie impersonation was a bonus....
ReplyDeleteHappy MCW Roses....
Along with Braveheart, this is another film I haven't seen.
ReplyDeleteI think the best film shot in Scotland was 2001: A Space Odyssey (the Isle of Harris was transformed by Stanley Kubrick into the surface of the planet Jupiter).
ReplyDeleteNot Braveheart?

Happy MCW!
rog ~ I haven't seen Local Hero, so I can't vouch for it.
ReplyDeleteprincess ~ agreed. He can talk fake Scotts to me all night. I wouldn't get bored. When he was Qi Gon Jin in Star Wars I had to wear Tena Lady.
mj ~ if you've picked up both dvds and you're wondering which one to go for, choose Rob Roy.
dave ~ was all of it shot in Scotland, or just that bit?
xl ~ grrrrr....
The bits in space were shot in space, of course, including the moon scenes.
ReplyDeletedave ~ of course they were, how silly of me to suggest otherwise.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite movie shot in England is Spice World, or well one of them. It's pure class, just like The Queen.
ReplyDeleteI was always partial to "Shallow Grave" myself. Or "Gregory's Girl". Or that thing where the two guys from Edinburgh or wherever, rob tourists on coaches in the highlands.:)
ReplyDeleteI just watched this last week for the first time. A wouldn't know a good scottish accent from an English accent, but the story was kind of interesting. All the money and contracts stuff was boring but Tim Roth was pretty creepy.
ReplyDeleteHappy MCW!
But Scotland IS the moon ...
