MCW Favourite Fantasy Movie 13th Warrior

This is probably the most underrated movie ever. I believe (I haven't checked out the font of all knowledge that is Wiki), that it was due to be released the same time as Gladiator came out. Rather than go head to head, it was decided to go on limited release and straight-to-video. Usually reserved for truly appalling cinema. That, was a mistake.

This movie is based on the fabulous Michael Creighton's book The Eaters of the Dead, a re-working of the saga of Beowulf. The screenplay is fantastic, the acting superb. I bought it on vhs and then on dvd. I have seen it so many times and it never fails to delight and inspire. The attention to detail in presenting this story makes this a believable and engrossing tale.

It is truly fantastic. Enjoy my lovelies.

Happy MCW!

  3. dave ~ It's a film I enjoy time and time again.

xl ~ It's just fantastic. Finding good Viking films, now that's the hard bit. You might like to have a look at a British film called Centurion. Watched it Sunday with the Great Ursus and his Lovely. Really good.

It sounds interesting. I liked Beowulf. Are there trolls in it?

  6. I LOVE this movie and agree with you that it's underrated. Then again, I'd watch a computer rewiring instruction video if it starred Antonio Banderas. Happy MCW, Roses!

  11. I loved this movie and have seen it several times even though I think Antonio Banderas was slightly miscast as an arab. It's a great story and Dennis Storhøi who plays Herger really stole this movie.

Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan: Have we anything resembling a plan?
Herger the Joyous: Mm-hm. Ride till we find them... and kill them all.

    Happy MCW!

  12. dave ~ probably.

buzzkill ~ I think you'll find many ladies will disagree with you. Antonio rules.

I do agree though, the script was awesome and dialogue delivered so brilliantly.

  16. cyberpete ~ we may get drunk, go shopping, exercise and hang out together...but we'll never go to the cinema with each other. I can't abide chick flicks. I do love you anyway.

karl ~ bloody YouTube. Thanks my toes and fingersare become re-aquainted with each other. They sure were surprised.

mago ~ not quite my darling. It was a 'realistic' portrayal of the saga. There are casulties, but gore is not indulged, when there is some, the camera focuses on the characters reactions, rather than the bloodfest.
