The Open Road
Walt Whitman
Afoot and light-hearted, I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me
The long brown path before me, leading where I choose
Henceforth I ask not good-fortune, I myself am good-fortune
Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing,
Done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulouse criticisms
Strong and content, I travel the open road.
Don't you just love Walt - something about his writing just touches my soul.
ReplyDeletemoggie ~ oh yeah.
ReplyDeleteDespite my disdain for many American writers, Walt Whitman ALWAYS has a few lines for every ONE of life's situations...and in this case (as in so many others) very apposite they seem too...
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting...I simply MUST do some more reading/rereading of his stuff...
cogidubnus ~ coming back to writing has meant starting from the begining: writing exercises, reading lots and looking for inspiration. Walt just did it for me with that poem.
ReplyDeleteThat's a geat poem...
